Adventure

“Awaken your spirit to adventure; Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk; Soon you will be home in a new rhythm, For your soul senses the world that awaits you.” ~ John O’Donohue

When people discover I am a teacher, one of the most common questions I receive is: “What is that like? It must be really difficult!” Usually I reply, “It’s always an adventure!” And what an adventure it is! While this time of the year may not feel the most “adventurous,” I love coming back to the open expanse of this idea.

Consider your daily experiences, the statements you never thought you would say, and the situations you never anticipated finding yourself in. As a form of reflection at the end of the week, consider your “Memorable Adventures.” These may be humorous or they may be thoughtful. It is up to you. Feel free to write them down or simply take a walk down Memory Lane.

  • When have you experienced the most joy with your students?

  • What were you doing? How long ago did this happen?

  • What is the most surprising thing you ever heard from a student?

  • What is the most unexpected thing you ever needed to say at your job?

  • What is the most adventurous teaching experience you have ever had?

  • What ideas, lessons, or activities do you want to explore as a teacher?

  • What new rhythms might God be inspiring in your soul?

Today, let’s awaken our spirits to adventure!
