I Am Weary
“My flesh and heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” ~ Psalm 73:26 (NIV)
I heard a story not long ago that I’d like to share with you today.
A father took his young daughter on a special outing; just the two of them. He had many wonderful plans for their day: playing at the park, picking out a new toy at her favorite store, and soaring to the skies at a trampoline park. At their first stop, her father asked if she would like to go down the slide. She excitedly responded, “Yes please!” But after one or two times, without explanation, she crawled into her father’s lap, closed her eyes, and rested.
When she woke up, the young child asked if they could still go to the store to pick out a new toy. “Of course,” he responded. But once they entered the store, she slowly looked around and said she didn’t want anything that day. At the trampoline park, the intended highlight of their day, she held her father’s hand and made her way from the front of the park to the back. After a minute or two, she muttered, “I’m tired.” She climbed into her father’s lap once again, closed her eyes, and rested. While she felt excited to do the activities, by this point it was clear she was beginning to come down with a cold. Despite the day she wanted to have, her body and mind were weary. What she needed on that special outing was her father to hold her safely in his arms while she rested.
Do you ever feel like this child, beginning the day with the best intentions in mind, but overcome by weariness at every turn? We have a loving Father who holds and comforts us while we rest. He loves His children deeply, more than we can comprehend. When our worries feel too heavy for our hearts, He speaks words of promise, untangling the anxieties. We are invited once again to come to Him and find rest in His loving arms.
May the Lord Bless You and Keep You:
Today, may the Holy Spirit bring peace for your weary soul.
When your body and heart feel as if they are failing, may you be reminded that God is the strength of your heart.
May you take hold of your Father’s hand, lay your head on His shoulder, and find rest.
And may you allow yourself to slow down to simply take the next needed step.
