Good Old Days
“I wish there was a way to know you’re in the good old days before you’ve actually left them.” ~ Andy Bernard (“The Office”)
If you have watched the TV sitcom, “The Office,” as much as I have, you probably envisioned the look on Andy’s face and the tone in his voice when he said these tear-jerking words toward the end of the series. This line from the show always invites me to pause - wherever I am in life at the moment - and consider what pieces of my life will be a part of the “good old days” when I look back later. Then I lean into these moments a little more.
We are at the end of another busy week. Maybe you are simply grateful you’ve made it to Friday! The days have been long and the tasks never-ending. You need to catch a breath - to rest for awhile. Even in the midst of exhaustion, today is something special and your students are waiting for you. Perhaps a thought to help you remain in the moment is:
What is happening in my life / my classroom / my office right now that will be a part of the “good old days” when I look back later?
How can I lean in and cherish these good old days before I’ve actually left them?
