A Weekend to Reflect

This weekend has an extra day or two for most teachers because of the observance of Memorial Day on Monday. I believe this gives us a much needed moment to pause, breathe, and reflect. As teachers, we need some time to process the previous year and the closure that will take place in the coming days and weeks.

And yet, often we fill this weekend with plans, agendas, to-do lists, and last minute errands. We may feel like we’re running around, barely keeping our head above water. Hear me out - there is nothing wrong with a good to-do list! Staying organized and proactive helps events run smoothly and may help us feel more prepared for the end of the school year.

However, I’d like to put forward another challenge this weekend: Seek balance and reflection. If possible, find or create moments to notice who and what is around you. Write down five things you’re thankful for. Decide how you would like closure to look like with your students. Be curious about what your mind, body, and soul need right now. You are not selfish for prioritizing reflection and self-understanding. This is what will help you and your students have a strong, loving end of the school year.
