Write a Story

“Details make stories human, and the more human a story can be, the better.” ~ Ernest Hemmingway

In our previous reflection, I invited you to spend the last few days and weeks of school making a list of your top twenty moments from this school year. Along the same lines, today we are thinking of specific stories and the power of storytelling. Every year I taught in the classroom, it felt like there were about two or three (or sometimes more) experiences I had where I needed to write down and reflect on what had happened. The specifics of the situation were so important to me that I needed to write down everything in as much detail as I could so that I would never lose that memory.

I encourage you to think about a story from this year you want to treasure and remember. Perhaps it taught you something or shifted your perspective. Maybe it reminded you why you became a teacher. Or maybe it was a hilarious situation that brings a smile to your face whenever you think of it! It might even be one of the memories on your Top 20 list. Whatever the case may be, this is your invitation to think of a story and take some time in the coming days to write it down. Later, you will be so grateful you did.
