Teacher Tip Tuesday: Write a Letter
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week, Everyone! I hope you feel surrounded by love, support, and celebration as we are nearing the end of the school year. You MORE THAN deserve it! I hope you receive creative hand-made cards from your littles and grammatically questionable emails from your older kiddos telling you how special and impactful you are. Because it is so true.
Who has been an important teacher and mentor to you? Was it a mentor teacher early on in your career? Perhaps you have a colleague who continues to support and inspire you in your daily journey. Maybe a grade school teacher or college professor had an influential role in shaping where you are today.
My teacher tip for this Tuesday is to invite time into your week to reflect on this person and write them a letter. Even if you’re not sure how to get in touch with this individual or they have passed away. Writing a letter of gratitude to an educator serves a couple purposes. First, it may remind you of what has inspired you to be in this profession, offering a helpful perspective during a busy season! Secondly, reflecting on who or what has made an impact on your life brings us back to the actions and words that really make a difference for students. This will be your lasting legacy for students as well. Finally, if you’re able to, share this letter with the person who wrote it to. I guarantee this will be a gift they cherish for a long, long time.
