Legacy

“What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.” ~ Pericles

  • How do you want to be remembered after your students walk out of your door on the last day of school?

  • When they think back to how they felt in your classroom, how do you hope they remember this feeling?

  • Will your students remember laughter?

  • Will your students remember safety?

  • Will your students remember being comforted?

  • Will your students remember new discoveries and a passion for learning?

  • Will your students remember being seen, heard, and valued for who they are?

Many things have happened during this school year that were out of your control. You couldn’t control a student experiencing a crisis. You couldn’t control the outlined testing schedule or the interruptions in the learning space. You didn’t expect when you or your students would get sick. You didn’t anticipate a big life change.

Despite all of these “uncontrollables,” you are still leaving an amazing legacy with your students, even if things look a little different than you thought they would. The moments you took to listen and love probably just feel like moments to you, but to a student, these were life-changing. The times you empowered a student to do their best work, even when it felt uncomfortable for them, taught them what they are capable of! These seemingly simple situations in the midst of a busy school year are what leaves a life-changing legacy. What legacy do you want to leave?
