Teacher Tip Tuesday: Be in the Moment
“The point of power is always in the present moment.” ~ Louise L Hay
As teachers, we are planners! We are proactive, and we are good at it. (Most of the time!) Our professional responsibilities require that we are constantly multi-tasking and thinking two or three steps ahead. We are finalizing details for the field trip in two weeks while planning the end-of-the-year party while drafting an email to a parent while proactively putting a snack in a child’s backpack because we know they won’t have one for snack time and are too embarrassed to ask us. We are conditioned to “do the next thing,” and there’s something necessary about that. However, we may be so accustomed to planning the “next,” that we forget the “now.”
When I first read our reflection quote for today, it really made me pause and think. The point of power is always in the present moment. There is so much power in the present. What we see and hear around us may invite opportunities that we didn’t even know to plan for. But these may be the most impactful moments of the school year. For that reason, our Teacher Tip Tuesday today is to be in the moment. You may even want to invite your students to do some “in the moment” reflection as we near the end of the year. Although, I often find inspiration from our kiddos as they seem to naturally be more in tune with the present situation than we are. We can learn a lot from their joy, excitement, and energy.
As you draw your awareness to what’s going on in front of and around you, my hope is that unexpected blessings would light up your day, and beautiful, powerful moments of connection would take place.
