Room for Creativity

I believe the last two or three months of the school year hold the most potential for creative energy! The students have gotten to know each other and their teacher really well. They have learned so many new things about reading, math, science, art, and themselves. In some ways, they are different people than they were when they started the year.

First-graders are showing more independence than ever, soaring in their new skills and confidence! Fifth-graders are getting used to the idea of middle school, each day growing and changing in new ways. Ninth-graders are recognizing their passion for the needs around them and building their skills of advocacy and leadership. Twelfth-graders are equal-parts excited and nervous as they look to an end of so many chapters in their book. What will life look like outside of school?

In the midst of busy days, where might there be opportunities to make room for creativity and exploration? As teachers, we know this is foundational for students’ confidence and development. Watching our students explore their interests and potential also brightens our days. Often it reminds us why we answered this call into education in the first place. So in the busy days ahead, when might there be an opening to create room for creativity?
