In the Midst

Over the past several weeks, we have used our Thursday reflections as an opportunity to consider who and what we are thankful for. We acknowledge the many people who are important to us - our students, colleagues, friends, and family.

And yet, there may be days when we feel so exhausted, it’s hard to even express gratitude. Our days and weeks seem to be both crawling along and flying by at the same time. How do we conserve our energy and also share our love and joy with our students? How do we live with gratitude in the midst of demanding days?

I’m not sure I know the full answer to this question, however I think it starts with the “in the midst” moments. In the midst of the chaos and clutter, do we pause to notice the smiles and laughter? In the midst of the blurting, do we hear students talking with others - surprising friendships forming? In the midst of giving reminders, do we thank the ones who are listening?

Perhaps today is our invitation to pause and be thankful for the seemingly simple moments. And just be.
