I Am Powerful

This Monday is Christmas and, instead of an excerpt from “Called to the Classroom: Daily Reflections for Educators” like we normally have on Mondays, I will be sharing a Christmas blessing. Because of this, I’d like to share a reflection from “Called to the Classroom” today. This reflection is timely for this season because it is titled, “I Am Powerful.” Indeed we are empowered by our God who became man and understood our vulnerable struggles. He lifts us up. He promises hope and change.

“May His love pour in and through you like a river of living water. You’re connected to the supernatural Source of power - the Most High God.” ~ Susie Larson

There are days we may feel trapped, powerless in the midst of overwhelming situations. We witness the struggles of our students and desperately want to fix it all, but so much is out of our control. We see gaping flaws in our education system, failing to support our most vulnerable students; and yet, how can we change funding, regulations, and procedures within our district or state? Perhaps, we go home at night and wonder if we are able to create any impact at all.

I will not try to sugarcoat the situation because I am there with you. We are in a profession unlike almost any other, and it is difficult. However, I do not believe God has called us to be in these positions because He intended a feeling of powerlessness or apathy. Instead, I believe He has placed us in these roles because He knows the power we do possess in Him.

Through the Holy Spirit, a supernatural Source of power dwells within us. We stand on this truth! The reality is if we let go of our agendas and follow God in full obedience, anything can happen. It is risky! He may place us in positions of leadership or influence. He may expect that we stand out from the crowd, and it may feel uncomfortable. But I wonder if any significant, positive change ever happened while feeling comfortable. We are much more powerful than we know because of our identity in Christ. Are you willing to risk comfort and consistency for opening your heart to the possibilities that God’s plan holds?

May the Lord Bless You and Keep You:

Today, may your heart and spirit be revived!

You are traveling a difficult journey.

May you be reminded that you do not travel alone.

May the Holy Spirit empower your soul and mind to follow God without hesitation.

May you have the courage to risk discomfort in order to live out God’s design for your life.

And may you know: you are powerful.
