Gifts

In our previous reflection, we discussed how traditions are often an integral part of our celebrations during this time of year. Just yesterday, I enjoyed a conversation with some of my students and they talked about their favorite Christmas and Kwanzaa traditions they are looking forward to over their winter break.

In a similar way, sharing gifts is a beautiful act that shows how we value and appreciate one another while usually celebrating something much deeper. Gift-giving can, at times, become more about the price tag or the expectation. However, when we pause to reflect on the reason for sharing gifts in the first place, we remember that it is about this simple truth: We love and care about someone else so much, we are eager to be generous with our time, energy, or talents as one way to express how much they mean to us.

You have many beautiful strengths, designed into the fabric of your being. You can share these gifts at any time with those around you. Pause for a moment to reflect on the way you create a positive impact. What gifts and strengths are you using to encourage and inspire others? How might you continue to intentionally use these qualities in your personal and professional life?

The thing about sharing is: It goes both ways. Receiving and inviting what others bring to the table is a wonderful part of living life to the fullest as well. Sometimes it may feel easier to give than receive. However, when you have an embracing attitude, this welcomes others to do the same as well. Once again, pause to reflect on the way other people use their unique gifts to bless your life. What do you appreciate about the people around you? How have these things shaped who you are and who you are becoming?
