Rest. Renew. Refresh.

As I wrote about yesterday, I believe the invitation of rest is an important theme to explore in this next season. So in June, our reflection focus will be on rest.

One aspect of rest that surprises me a bit is how uncomfortable it can feel when we are used to constant busyness. Especially when there are still many tasks to do and responsibilities to add to the calendar, how do we choose to create time to just be?

I think we begin by integrating practices into our lives that authentically lead us toward the path of renewal and refreshment. As an example, for me this looks like:

  • Reading (or listening to) a book a friend recommended to me

  • Making time to get my workout done first thing in the day, knowing I will feel better throughout the day because of it

  • Listening to my body and taking a nap when needed

  • Blocking my schedule for both work and fun

  • Creating time to make meals that will encourage life and energy

  • Being out in nature at a new state park or by the beach

What does rest, renewal, and refreshment look like to you?

How can you authentically invite these actions into your life?

What might you need to say “no” to in this season?

Note: As I am intentionally creating some parameters for rest in my own life, I have decided to post one reflection per week in June, July, and August. In September, I will resume the Monday through Friday schedule. Until then, look for a weekly post on Monday mornings!
