In Expectation
“The word advent means ‘expectation.’ What advent can do for us is create a sense of hope.” ~ Louie Giglio
I grew up with the tradition of observing the season of Advent in my Christian faith. It is one of my favorite times of the year. Even if this has not been something in your experience, I invite you to explore this idea with me today. The word, Advent, comes from the Latin word, adventus, which means “coming.” This season is an anticipatory time as we look forward to the Christmas celebration.
But it goes deeper than that. Advent provides us with permission to reflect on the longings in our hearts, our connections with others, and our hopes for the future. This season creates the space to sit with Who or what you are looking for. Perhaps you have been dwelling on the past for too long and are now seeking healing or answers. Perhaps you are yearning to feel your head above water in the midst of a busy time. Or perhaps you are simply hoping to feel hopeful again.
Wherever you find yourself today, you are allowed to hold expectation in your heart. The door is opening ahead of you for healing, peace, growth, and connections. May you be given the courage and strength to look forward to what is coming.
