I Am Uplifted
“All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.” ~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Like many other reflections we have shared, today we explore the beautiful dichotomy between being uplifted and uplifting others. “I am an Uplifter,” would have been an appropriate title as well, for certainly we are reaching out to those who are lonely, hurting, and brokenhearted, offering a sense of hope into their lives.
As Dr. King advocated for in our reflection quote, our calling to uplift humanity should not be taken lightly. Rather, it should be undertaken with painstaking excellence. Our labor has dignity and importance. Our students and colleagues look to us to provide encouragement and inspiration. This is an honorable, yet sobering responsibility.
For this reason, the main identifier we focus on is that we are uplifted. Ultimately, God does the work of Uplifter, not just for us, but for our students, colleagues, and families. He begins by extending an invitation, equipping us to live out this calling. In His omnipotent wisdom, our gracious Savior knows our stumbling blocks and moments of weakness. Where we may feel unable to encourage or support, Jesus provides grace and strength, continuing to lift us up as we take the next steps, uplifting humanity.
May the Lord Bless You and Keep You:
Today, you are uplifted.
May the mental image of being raised up linger in your mind throughout the day.
May you be empowered to uplift humanity, showing dignity and treating others with importance.
May the Holy Spirit strengthen you to fulfill your calling with painstaking excellence.
And may this begin a chain reaction that no force can hinder.
