I Am A Nourisher

“This is a large work I’ve called you into, but don’t be overwhelmed by it. It’s best to start small. Give a cool cup of water to someone who is thirsty, for instance. The smallest act of giving or receiving makes you a true apprentice. You won’t lose out on a thing.”
~ Matthew 10:42 (MSG)

Think of a time you felt extravagantly nourished. This could be physical, spiritual, or emotional nourishment. (Once again, you may find it helpful to write down your thoughts for later reflection.)

I feel nourished in two main ways. First, spending time in nature always fills my hungry soul. Whether that be while exploring the woods in Minnesota or when sitting on an ocean beach in Florida, I feel closest to God when I am in nature. Secondly, I feel nourished when I am surrounded by people who love me deeply. Add some good homemade food to that community, and my cup overfloweth!

Our school buildings are often places of nourishment for many students. When they enter these walls, they are filled with food, love, knowledge, and belonging. I am comforted by this translation of Jesus’ words to His disciples: This is a large work I’ve called you into, but don’t be overwhelmed by it. It’s best to start small. Give a cool cup of water to someone who is thirsty. This grounds us in our purpose. We are reminded we don’t have to do it all. We can start small and look around us for those who need a kind action of nourishment today.

May the Lord Bless You and Keep You:

Today, may you be blessed with nourishment, whether through a warm meal, a deep conversation with a friend, or a good night of rest.

May you view your school as a space of nourishment for those who work and learn there.

The Holy Spirit is not limited by location, resources, or policies.

Anchored in God’s love, may your words and actions be a channel to nourish others.
